Tasha's Story: I was doing a show at Kuntu Repertory Theater at The University of Pittsburgh and she was the stage manager for the next show that was coming to the theater. I would see her in passing and Im not gonna lie she was cute or whatevah! ha ha ha! I didnt know much about her but we ended up working on the same show shortly after. I just remember laughing a lot with her in the theater, testing her with my quick short witted answers, she was really cool and we were ONLY friends at the time. Shortly after that show I moved to another state and we lost touch for 6 years!Fast forward to the super hero MY SPACE if youre reading this and dont know what My Space is well, we listen and we dont judge! ha ha ha ha! We reconnected on My Space while I was living in NY and she was still in Pittsburgh. It was as if time never passed and this time I decided Im going to dig in a little and see where this goes! I came back to Pittsburgh to do Aint Misbahvin and she was also the stage manager of that show, after 6 years back to the place where we first met, But this time Love would meet us there too! Some may say the rest is history but I say the rest is Today! The rest led us to Today, after proposing to me live on Instagram for all of our friends and family to see in the middle of being interviewed about my childrens books, ha ha ha ha, we are ready to walk down the aisle of forever and I couldnt be happier. Not too bad for two theater babies!Keirsten's Story: I was working at Kuntu Repertory Theater, doing a few shows, minding my own business — when I started noticing her. Always backstage, always cracking jokes, always lighting up the space with her presence. She had this energy — sharp, funny, effortless — the kind that draws attention without even trying. I asked my friend MJ, “Who’s that?” He laughed and said, “Oh, that’s Doc’s granddaughter, Tasha. She can do whatever she wants.” (she, in fact, was not Docs granddaughter)Okay. Bet. As long as she’s not in the way backstage, we’re good.But the thing is — she never was. Tasha was magnetic. Every time we saw each other, it was all love, all fun, a rhythm we slipped into without trying. Eventually, I ended up stage managing a show she was in. I don’t even remember the name of that show — but I’ll never forget her. Working with her was a blast. We laughed, we teased, we clicked. Then the season ended... and she was gone.Life moved on — as it does — and I heard through the grapevine that she had moved out of state. I figured that was it. A good memory. A funny, bright spot in the past.Until about six years later.Out of nowhere, she hits me up on MySpace. (Yeah, we’re MySpace old.) And suddenly, we’re talking like no time had passed. She’d been living in different cities, chasing her art and passion, and now she was in New York. I was still in Pittsburgh. She mentioned she had just wrapped up a show in town but would be back in a few months for another.We promised we’d catch up.True to her word, she hit me up when she was back. We were talking, catching up, and I mentioned I was the Stage Manager for Ain’t Misbehavin’. She paused and said, “I know. I’m in the show.” Talk about a full circle.From that moment on, we were us.Years passed, and the bond only grew. I’m not the grand gesture type, but when I had the chance to book her on a podcast to promote her book, I knew: this was it. This was the moment. With the help of our big sister (whose podcast it was) and my sister-in-love Candice, I pulled it off.I asked her to marry me — and she said yes.They say what’s meant to be will always find its way. We’re living proof. Through miles and years, across stages and states, somehow the universe kept writing us back into the same script. And this time, we’re in the lead roles.
